Well… this is a fun little cereal!

The box says it’s a limited edition, although I seem to remember eating it once before, so I think it’s been around for a little while, but apparently it won’t be forever.

If you like chocolate cereals, and you like Crunch Berries, well… I don’t think you’re ever going to get a more tailor-made cereal for you than this one.  Although I suspect that the little chocolate biscuit pieces may be smaller than the yellow Cap’n Crunch biscuits in Crunch Berries, but I don’t know that for certain, because I don’t have any Crunch Berries in the house to compare them to and probably won’t be getting any anytime soon.  I think these cereal companies continually tweak their recipes to try to make them “taste better” or have “less sugar” or whatever…. ugh.  They really need to leave well enough alone.  The cereals taste fine, stop messing with them already!  Unfortunately, I think they’ve tweaked Crunch Berries’ formula a little too much in recent years – it used to be one of my favorite cereals but I don’t really buy them anymore.  Hard to put my finger on it, but they just don’t taste the same to me these days.  Less sugary, maybe?  I dunno.  Whatever it is, I don’t like it.  And if they ever start messing with their Peanut Butter Crunch, one of my probably top-3 favorite cereals, heaven help ’em.

But again, I digress wildly.

Whatever they did to Crunch Berries, they didn’t do to Chocolatey Berry Crunch, apparently – or maybe the added chocolate flavor is enough to overcome it.  Regardless, it’s a very tasty little cereal!  I don’t like it as much as the Cap’n’s Sprinkled Donut Crunch, but this is still a very solid cereal that I’d buy again.  Very sweet, very chocolatey, good chocolate/berry balance…. stays pretty crispy overall.  I have no complaints with this little number.  Get it while you can!  If the Cap’n is to be believed (and would a guy with those googly eyes and that maniacal grin mislead you?), he won’t make it forever.  And since I personally enjoy it, I can almost guarantee you he’ll get rid of it the first chance he gets.  The Sprinkled Donuts seem pretty rare on the store shelves these days, and don’t even get me started on the cereals he cruelly yanked away from me in my childhood (Cinnamon Crunch, and my beloved Vanilly Crunch, we hardly knew ye).

I must really like cereal an awful lot to keep eating it after all of these bitter disappointments! 😀
